3: Thermal Physics

For each of the Google Slides Presentations embedded in this page, you can use the following colour scheme to tell whether each slide is from the Core or Extended part of the Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences syllabus.

Yellow Background = Core Content
Green Background = Extended Content
Pink Background = Not strictly on the syllabus

In addition, slides containing Extended Content have the word EXTENDED in bold in the top corner. (Some slides have picture backgrounds so the colour coding may be missing.)

Sometimes information is just interesting or useful for illustrating where you see concepts in practice in real life, hence the pink background parts.

Compounds, Ions and Molecules

A reminder of how elements bond to form compounds.

The Simple Kinetic Model of Matter

The structure and properties of solids, liquids and gases.

Transfer of Thermal (Heat) Energy

When heat energy is transferred it can be described as one of three processes:
  • Conduction
  • Convection
  • Radiation
Each of these are detailed in the presentation below.

Resources Slowly Being Added...

Currently a work in progress. The sections listed in the sidebar (or menu button if you're viewing this on a mobile or narrow screen) link to pages named after the sections in the Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinates Sciences Physics textbook. There are also links to revision sites, and a handful of Kahoot! quizzes I've made.

Core and Extended

This is not yet applied to all presentations embedded on this site (what little there is so far), but I intend to make clear which information on the slides are in the Core part of the syllabus, and which are from the Extended. As best I can, any slide that's Core will be on a pale yellow background . (Anything uploaded so far is already yellow, so there will be some Extended content on yellow at the moment too.) Any slide that is Extended will be on a green background and, where practical, say EXTENDED in the corner of the slide. Any slide that isn't strictly part of the course but adds a bit of extra information to aid understanding and relevance, will have a pink background . I'll see if I can figure out how to communicate clearly what is on the Combined syllabus, and what is on the Co-ordinated. (There are some things that are, confusingly, on the Co-ordinated Core, but Combined Extended, so that will be fun for me to figure out!)
